What does natural horsemanship mean?

Natural Horsemanship is a way to communicate with your horse and handle it naturally by gaining trust, respect and leadership. The training method is based on pressure and release and builds on the natural instincts of horses.

At our Ranch we train our horses by mainly following the training concept of Pat Parelli.

“Pat Parelli created a natural horsemanship program to improve the relationship between humans and horses. Pat promoted the concept of love, language and leadership. Parelli Natural Horsemanship states its core principle as "Horsemanship can be obtained naturally through communication, understanding and psychology, versus mechanics, fear and intimidation." It is a basic training for humans and horses, which is based on mutual communication, on respect and trust between humans and horse and which considers the varying needs of different horse personalities. The Seven Games are the basis of true communication with horses.”

Before we start our horses under saddle we build a basic communication with them on the ground. Besides a lot of desensitization with flags, tarps and balls we teach them groundwork by mainly using the “seven games”.

After a solid basis on the ground we start our horses soft and with as little pressure as possible under saddle. All of our horses are ridden bitless.

During the daily trail rides and ranch work, the horses gain a lot of confidence and becoming solid and reliable riding horses.
